Most appliance jobs are one of three. The delivery crew brought the new one and left the old one in the garage. A fridge, freezer or washer quit and has to go. Or a kitchen or laundry room is being cleared for a remodel, a move or a sale. Either way, the appliance has to be disconnected, emptied and carried past everything between it and the truck. That carry is our job: the crew straps it to a dolly, takes it through the doors and down the stairs, and it leaves in the same visit as anything else you want gone.

Plug-in appliances the crew simply unplugs. Gas lines, hardwired power and bad water valves are handled first by the right trade, as explained below for each kind of appliance. Leave heavy appliances where they are; a photo is all the estimate needs.

Refrigerator, range, washer, dryer, dishwasher and microwave on a white background

Which appliance needs to go?

Show the appliance where it sits and tell us what is still connected. We’ll explain any preparation needed. Recycling depends on a suitable facility accepting the unit.

Refrigerators, freezers and compact cooling units

Empty food and drinks, explain ice or pooled water, and keep the refrigerant system intact. A mini fridge, wine cooler, kegerator or water dispenser still needs its equipment type identified. Ice machines add a water connection. Built-in, commercial and walk-in refrigeration require a separate preparation and loading review; a household fridge quote does not include dismantling a walk-in.

Washers, dryers and stacked pairs

Explain whether the machines are side by side, stacked or fitted inside a closet. Accessible washer hoses may be disconnected with permission only when the shutoff valves work and hold. A plug-in electric dryer can be unplugged and its ordinary vent disconnected as agreed. Gas disconnection belongs with a qualified professional. Photograph the connections safely without dragging the machine out.

Ranges, ovens, dishwashers and microwaves

Tell us whether each appliance plugs in or is hardwired, and whether there’s a gas line. Wall ovens, range hoods and over-range microwaves are mounted, so show how. Dishwashers need their water, drain and power disconnected first. Commercial and pizza ovens are heavy; send photos and we’ll plan how they come out, bringing or arranging the equipment the job needs.

Water heaters, AC and connected equipment

Water heaters go once they’re drained and disconnected. HVAC work, refrigerant recovery and cutting lines are for a licensed trade. List furnaces, stoves, water softeners and dehumidifiers individually. Window and portable AC units and dehumidifiers stay intact so the refrigerant can be recovered at disposal.

Small appliances and mixed kitchen contents

List fans, space heaters, humidifiers, air purifiers, vacuums, toasters, air fryers, coffee makers, blenders, hair dryers, sewing machines and carpet cleaners with the larger load. Empty liquids and disclose batteries or damaged components. Hydroponic systems, vending machines and popcorn machines need their own contents and connection description. Do not put chemicals or loose batteries into an appliance box.

Refrigerators and freezers

Empty them of food, drinks and ice before the pickup, and tell us if a unit has sat unplugged with food inside. If the fridge has an ice-maker or water line, the crew can disconnect it at the shutoff valve with your OK, as long as the valve fully closes and holds; a leaking, corroded or missing valve needs a plumber first.

Under federal rules, the refrigerant in refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners has to be recovered before the appliance is disposed of or scrapped. That’s why a cooling unit leaves sealed and intact: never cut its lines or take the back off to make it lighter. A wide fridge that won’t clear a doorway can have its doors and handles taken off; that’s routine disassembly and it’s included. See refrigerator removal, freezer removal, mini fridges and commercial refrigerators.

Washers and dryers

With your approval, the crew disconnects washer fill hoses at shutoff valves that fully close and hold, and unhooks the drain hose. If a valve leaks, won’t turn or is missing, have a plumber fix it first. Tell us if the washer stopped mid-cycle with water still in the drum.

A plug-in electric dryer is unplugged and its ordinary vent pulled off the wall. A gas dryer needs a qualified technician to shut off and cap the gas line first; once that’s done, we take it out. Stacked pairs are usually separated before they’re carried out, and a pair tucked in a closet or behind louvered doors is ordinary work: just show us the space. See washer and dryer removal and dryer removal.

Stoves, ranges, dishwashers and wall ovens

A plug-in electric range slides out and unplugs. A gas range needs its line shut off and capped by a qualified gas technician first, and a hardwired cooktop or wall oven needs an electrician. Then we take it out and haul it away. A dishwasher has water, drain and power connections under the counter; once a plumber or electrician has disconnected it, the crew slides it out and carries it off. Wall ovens, cooktops and over-the-range microwaves are mounted, so show us how they sit. See stove and oven removal, dishwasher removal, microwave removal and range hood removal.

Water heaters and air conditioners

A water heater goes once it has been drained and disconnected, usually by the plumber or installer fitting the new one. Even drained, a steel tank with sediment in the bottom is heavy, and tall tanks are awkward under low ceilings and through utility-room doors, so show us where it sits. See water heater removal.

Window and portable air conditioners go as they are, intact. A central system’s outdoor condenser or indoor air handler needs an HVAC technician to recover the refrigerant and disconnect it first; then it’s ready to haul. See air conditioner removal and dehumidifiers.

What the photo should show

The photo that helps most shows the appliance where it sits with the doorway beside it, then one more of the way out: the turn past the kitchen island, the stairs and landing, the garage or lanai door, and where the truck can park. Say whether the unit is upstairs or behind other contents.

At a condo, ask management for the building’s vendor rules: service-elevator reservations, loading areas, contractor hours and hall protection. Send them with your photos so we can work with your building and its staff. If your building or property manager requires a certificate of insurance, tell us when you book and we’ll arrange it.

What changes the price

How many appliances are going, their size and weight (a compact fridge and a commercial or wide built-in unit are very different jobs), and the carry: stairs, an elevator, a long walk or a tight turn. A unit that’s still installed, food left inside, or doors that have to come off to clear a doorway all show up in the photo, and other junk going in the same trip is priced together. Every job has a $99 minimum, and many single appliances have published starting prices on pricing; our appliance removal cost guide explains the rest.

Text a photo, call, or fill out the free estimate form; you approve the price before we schedule. If photos leave questions, we’ll ask for another angle or offer a free walkthrough. If there’s more than you said, or it’s heavier than expected, the change is priced with you in writing before it goes on the truck. Same-day and next-day service may be available depending on the schedule and the job.

Free curbside pickup, donation and what happens to it

Ask the retailer first whether its delivery includes haul-away of the old unit. If you can get the appliance to the curb yourself, local pickup may be free: in Cape Coral, appliances are scheduled with Waste Pro at no charge; in unincorporated Lee County, you call your hauler to request the pickup before setting it out; and the City of Fort Myers runs a separate weekly white-goods pickup. Our Cape Coral, unincorporated Lee County and Fort Myers guides have the details. When it has to come up from a garage, down from a second floor or out today, send us the photo.

A working appliance may have a second home: Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore accepts appliances under 10 years old that work and are rust-free, with a few exceptions on its list (gas appliances among them); see donation and reuse in Lee County. When we haul a load, usable items can be donated when a local organization accepts them, metal goes to recycling when practical, and the rest goes to appropriate disposal. For a whole house being cleared, list the appliances with everything else in one written agreement; the estate cleanout guide covers rooms and items you want left alone.

Where it can go in Lee County

If you’d rather handle some of it yourself, or it’s still worth giving away, these are the local options. Each organization decides what it accepts, so check with them before you load the car.
