A Captiva road pickup travels through Sanibel, but serves a different place

For a Captiva pickup, the address, keys and permitted loading place need to come together before the visit. The road approach runs through Sanibel and across Blind Pass to Captiva Drive. Lee County identifies Blind Pass between the two islands. That geography makes a missed key handoff or unavailable loading space more than a small inconvenience.

Use the exact island and address rather than only “Captiva.” The county’s visitor bureau describes North Captiva as accessible by boat or private plane. It is not a continuation of the road route. Boat or barge logistics are outside an ordinary Captiva household pickup.

Confirm Captiva collection without borrowing Sanibel’s schedule

Lee County’s service-area listing includes Captiva in its collection system; Sanibel publishes separate City instructions. Check the account or manager serving the exact Captiva property, especially in a managed resort or community. The county’s residential resources provide the address lookup and material guidance.

If an accepted furniture item can safely reach the approved collection point and its timing fits, existing collection may solve the problem. Full-service removal becomes useful when furniture is still upstairs, several areas need clearing or an off-island owner needs a coordinated handoff. For a separate property in the City, use the Sanibel guide rather than treating the two islands as one collection area.

Trace the stair turns all the way to the permitted loading space

For an elevated home, show the stairs, landings and turns from the room all the way to the ground. At a managed property, ask about the service entrance, elevator and loading arrangements. A sofa’s width alone won’t explain how to get it out, especially if the original delivery route has changed. The couch guide covers sectionals, sleepers and routine disassembly.

Resolve the driveway and work window before the crew travels

Identify the approved loading place and explain any tight driveway, shared entrance or work-hour limit. Ask management before reserving an elevator or blocking a parking space. Share gate and lockbox details privately. The visit needs enough time for the actual carry-out, not just a brief window to open the front door.

Include the lanai and stored pieces in the furniture change

Name each room, lanai or storage area included. A patio-furniture pickup may involve fragile glass or weathered frames; an appliance needs its existing connections described. Use current condition information if weather, guests or contractors have changed the property since the first request. Gas, hardwired electrical and complex plumbing preparation belong with the appropriate trade.

Separate the rental manager’s access role from the owner’s removal decisions

If you’re changing furnishings between guest stays, distinguish owner furniture from guest belongings and confirm who can approve disposal. A manager can arrange entry while the owner supplies written instructions. Our vacation-rental guide explains that handoff without assuming every Captiva property is a rental.

  • Name the pieces leaving and the furnishings that remain, including stored spares for future stays.
  • Identify someone reachable during the job if an unlisted item raises a question.
  • Agree on lock-up and completion photos for the cleared areas before the visit.

Recheck access after severe weather

Use current official road and property notices rather than a saved notice from a previous storm. Safe household contents removal is separate from water recovery, structural demolition and remediation. Storm-debris guidance covers that distinction; seasonal-home planning covers a normal away-owner visit. Neither requires treating a removal appointment as ongoing home-watch service.
