A Fort Myers mailing address does not choose your collection service
Our coverage includes the City of Fort Myers and the surrounding Lee County communities. In the Iona and McGregor area, tell us if the pickup includes a lanai or furniture at the back of the house. For a condo nearer the river, the elevator and loading arrangements may matter more than the number of pieces. These are things to check at your property, not assumptions about every home. Lee County’s community overview identifies Iona/McGregor separately from the city; a Fort Myers mailing address doesn’t settle the municipal boundary.
Start with the service attached to your property
Before paying for removal, check the collection option you already have. For a city account, contact the City of Fort Myers Solid Waste Division. County-served households can use Lee County’s curbside information, which includes bulky furniture and appliances. Ask about the particular item and approved placement before carrying it outside.
For a condo or apartment, ask management about the building’s bulky-item arrangement. The county directs residents of multi-family properties to their property management for collection details. A shared dumpster is not a reason to leave a couch in a corridor or beside the enclosure.

The elevator, loading space and work window need to line up
The couch might be the easy part; getting it through the building can take a little planning. If there’s a gate or property manager, ask how a removal crew should enter and where we can load. Your resident gate code may not cover a commercial truck. Send private codes and key instructions directly, not in estimate photos.
For an upstairs or downtown condo
Ask about the service elevator, reservations, pads and permitted work hours. If your building or property manager requires a certificate of insurance, tell us when you book and we’ll arrange it. A 10–12 elevator reservation is the window we need to work within, not permission to use another elevator afterward.
- Check parking-garage height restrictions and the permitted truck loading position.
- Include corridor turns and the distance from the elevator to loading. A short carry and a long building route are different amounts of work.
- Leave furniture inside until the carrying plan is ready; common spaces and fire exits need to remain clear.
For a house, garage or lanai
Include the doorway, hallway turns, porch steps and any side gate. Name the garage or backyard if items there are going too. The furniture guide explains disassembly and tight exits; the refrigerator guide covers preparation before an appliance leaves the kitchen or garage.
Keep reusable furniture in use; get help with the carry-out
If good furniture can serve another household, check the local Habitat ReStore donation guide before arranging transport. Its current list excludes damaged upholstery and mattresses. Choose the receiving option around the item’s condition, rather than loading everything and hoping it will be accepted. Our donation, reuse and disposal guide explains how those outcomes differ.
Public collection can solve a straightforward disposal need when you can safely place accepted items as instructed. We’re useful when the work is inside: carrying a sleeper sofa through a condo, clearing several rooms or following an absent owner’s room-by-room instructions. You don’t need to know the truck volume before contacting us.
When family members are arranging the cleanout from elsewhere
Text or email what goes and what stays, arrange entry privately and name someone we can reach with questions. We send completion photos of the cleared areas. Estate cleanout help covers family decisions and remote arrangements without requiring every room to be settled at once.
Use the guide for the actual community
Cypress Lake, Whiskey Creek, Villas and Harlem Heights are also in our Lee County service area. Farther east, the Gateway guide covers managed homes and business properties, while Alva addresses storage spread across buildings. For San Carlos Park, the household list and any shared or rental-property arrangements are a useful starting point.
