Fort Myers Beach collection starts with the Town, not the City of Fort Myers

For an old mattress upstairs or furniture being replaced between guest stays, two questions matter: can your existing collection service take it, and who will get it out of the property? Fort Myers Beach is a separate Town. Its Public Works information identifies WM as the collection provider and directs collection and holiday questions there.

For a household on county-arranged service, Lee County’s curbside guide includes bulky furniture and appliances. Confirm the arrangement for your address or building before setting anything out. A condo’s shared service and an individual home’s curbside setup can be different. If an accepted item can be safely prepared and placed, public collection is a reasonable first option.

An elevated beach home needs a complete route to ground-level loading

A property with elevated living space needs the full stair or elevator route described. Do not assume the original delivery path still works after furnishings or building conditions change. A sofa photo from inside the room leaves the hardest part of that route unanswered.

Check the landing, turn and loading position together

Measure the tight turn and rail clearance when you can do so safely. Tell us whether a large piece has to pass through a screened porch or a narrow exterior door before reaching the stairs. The couch-removal guide explains sleepers, sectional connections and routine disassembly.

  • Identify where the removal vehicle can legally load without blocking a shared entrance.
  • Mention low clearance beneath the home; a parking space for a car is not automatically suitable for a truck.
  • For a condo, coordinate the service elevator and permitted work hours with management, using the actual building requirements.

Leave the heavy carry-out to the crew

Keep an upstairs mattress or heavy furniture in the agreed room for our pickup. Moving it to an exposed landing or shared walkway can make handling harder. Mattress removal covers condition and preparation; condo cleanouts covers shared-building access.

Fit a furniture refresh into the real gap between guest stays

For a vacation-property furniture refresh, identify the pieces being replaced, the date the property will be accessible and who can authorize disposal. Keep guest belongings and the owner’s furnishings that are staying clearly separate. Vacation-rental planning helps coordinate the removal around the manager’s actual turnover arrangements.

The useful window starts when the property can be entered and includes the carry to loading. A guest departure, cleaner’s visit and furniture delivery are separate events; have the manager identify where those activities overlap. An owner-approved list avoids removing a dresser that the cleaner merely moved aside. Remote owners can arrange entry privately and receive completion photos of the agreed cleared spaces.

Keep a routine cleanout separate from storm recovery

Patio furniture, mattresses and stored household contents can be part of a beach-property pickup. If weather has damaged them, describe their present condition and whether the building is safe to enter. Contents behind unsafe stairs, standing water or live damaged utilities need those problems addressed first.

The Town’s Public Works page also retains Hurricane Ian material. Read dates and current notices before relying on an emergency program; historical recovery instructions are not a standing collection offer. Our storm-debris guide explains prepared-material removal, while structural repair and remediation remain separate work.
