Lee County residents can take most household junk to the county’s Resource Recovery Facility in Buckingham (charged by weight, weekdays 6 a.m.–6 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m.–noon) and household chemicals and electronics to the Topaz Court facility in Fort Myers at no charge. Resource Recovery Facility (Buckingham)
10500/10550 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers, FL 33905. Open Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 6 a.m. to noon; phone 239-533-8000.
This is the county’s main campus: a residents’ drop-off area for non-chemical items (charged by weight), construction and demolition debris recycling, yard waste, and larger tires that can’t go at the curb. If you’re unloading by hand, be in the gate 30 minutes before closing; the county charges $10 for every 5 minutes it has to stay open for customers still unloading. Asphalt shingles are no longer accepted here; the county directs them to the Lee/Hendry landfill or an approved private construction-debris company. Garbage and debris from outside Lee County isn’t accepted at any county facility.

Topaz Court household chemical and electronics facility
6441 Topaz Court, Fort Myers. Open weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month, 8 a.m. to noon.
Residents can drop off household chemicals at no charge: latex paint, aerosol cans, pesticides, pool and spa chemicals and propane tanks, among others. It also recycles computers, printers and copiers, scanners, and TVs and monitors. Chemicals should never go in curbside garbage, dumpsters or compactors.

Household chemical collection days
If Topaz Court isn’t convenient, the county and some cities hold collection days closer to home. The county’s remaining 2026 schedule lists Estero (October 21), Cape Coral (November 7), Lehigh Acres (November 21), Sanibel (December 2) and the City of Fort Myers at 10091 McGregor Boulevard (December 16). Estero’s events are at Estero Community Park, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sanibel holds quarterly events at the Sanibel Library. Dates change, so check the official page before you go.

Before you load the car
Most curbside programs take more than people expect: furniture, appliances and yard waste often go out with your regular collection. Our trash and bulk pickup guides explain each jurisdiction’s rules. If the problem is carrying it out, the size of the load or a deadline, we haul it from wherever it sits. Text photos of the load for a free estimate.
