We haul away wood-burning stoves and old cast-iron heaters once they’re disconnected from the chimney or flue, cold and empty of ash. Send photos of the stove, the model or size if you know it, and the way out of the house.
Before we come
Have a chimney or stove professional disconnect the stovepipe or flue first; then we take the stove out and haul it away. Empty the ash and let it go completely cold. Leave the hearth, the chimney and anything around the stove in place.
Hearth boards and old insulation
Older stoves sometimes sit on hearth boards or have insulating wrap around them. Don’t break or pull that material to free the stove. EPA advises leaving suspect material undisturbed. Tell us what’s around the stove and we’ll plan around it; hauling the stove doesn’t include the hearth or chimney. Other cast-iron items can go in the same pickup.
