We remove cleaned wheelchairs when ownership and condition are clear. Check for rental or supplier ownership before requesting disposal, and distinguish a manual chair from a powered model.
Clean equipment and battery details
Blood, bodily fluids, sharps and medical waste need their own disposal route before pickup. For owned equipment, identify cushions, footrests and accessories that should leave. Powered chairs require battery-type and condition review; loose or damaged lithium batteries are not ordinary pickup. Rented equipment should be returned to its supplier.
Resolve ownership and identify the chair’s configuration
A manual folding chair, rigid frame and powered chair have different preparation. Include unwanted footrests and cushions, but keep rented equipment for its supplier. The equipment must be clean and free of medical waste. A mobility scooter has separate steering and battery-loading considerations.
Power systems and failed folding parts change the carry
A powered chair can be much heavier than its size suggests. Locked wheels, stuck hinges, stairs and narrow doors influence handling. Battery type and condition must be addressed before pickup. Leave faulty mechanisms alone; removal does not depend on forcing a damaged chair to fold or making it ready for clinical reuse.

- Fort Myers: weekly bulk pickup up to 4 cubic yards, often on a different day from trash.
- Cape Coral: same day as trash, within 3 feet of the road, nothing over 150 pounds.
- Fort Myers Beach: free WM special pickup; not at the curb more than 24 hours early.
- Sanibel: sofas, chairs and mattresses go out with regular garbage.
- Unincorporated Lee County: picked up as needed; set out like garbage, within 6 feet of the road.
