A sleeper can have the same footprint as an ordinary couch while carrying a metal bed frame and mattress inside. That hidden mechanism is why a picture of the upholstery alone can leave out the most important part of the estimate.

Tell Fort Myers Junk Removal that it is a sleeper, whether the mechanism works and where it sits. The removal plan must account for both the extra weight and the possibility of the mechanism opening during movement. A stuck or broken bed needs to be disclosed rather than forced open for a photo.

Planning your sleeper sofa removal

Concealed bed hardware adds weight and must be secured before carrying.

Before pickup
  • Remove personal belongings; say whether the mattress is included.
  • Disclose a stuck, damaged or partly open bed mechanism without forcing it.
Where it is and how to reach it
  • Step count, landing turns and the narrowest exit.
  • Elevator depth, loading location and the distance from the unit.
Useful photos
  • Entire sofa, any accessible model label and visible mechanism.
  • Room doorway, hallway turns, stairs and truck approach.
What affects the quote
  • Bed hardware, total load, carry distance and flights of stairs.
  • Removable parts or additional approved dismantling.

Identify the bed even when it is closed.

Say whether the unit is a pull-out sleeper, a folding futon or a reclining sofa. These are different configurations; the word “sofa” does not tell us which handling plan to review. Include a photo of the mattress or frame only if it is already visible and safely accessible.

Sleeper mechanisms are tied shut before moving. Do not treat a broken latch as something that will hold on stairs. If the bed is stuck partly open, send that information first so we can assess disassembly rather than plan around the closed dimensions.

Stairs matter more than the couch’s apparent size.

Include every flight and intermediate landing, along with tight turns and railings. An exterior staircase on an elevated home is part of the route too. Tell us about damaged steps or soft flooring before anyone tries to move the sleeper.

For a condo, describe the distance to the elevator, its usable space and the loading arrangement. If the permitted elevator route is unavailable, carrying a heavy sleeper down many flights is not an automatic substitute. The route, crew requirements and price need to be reviewed together.

Agree on dismantling before it becomes necessary.

Removable legs, cushions or backs and another exit may solve clearance problems. With permission, a standard hinged door can be removed and rehung. If it still won’t fit, we pause and work out the next option with you; walls, railings and screened enclosures stay as they are.

Cutting for disposal requires written approval. If the need for cutting was not included in the original estimate, we confirm the changed work and price first. This is removal for disposal or donation; a mover handles a sleeper you want reinstalled at another address.

Include the mattress and any other furniture.

State whether the sleeper mattress, a separate mattress, cushions or nearby chairs are also leaving. Keep items should be removed or clearly marked. Disclose pests or contamination before scheduling so preparation and acceptance can be reviewed; hiding the condition under a cover does not make it an ordinary upholstery pickup.

A sectional with a sleeper needs both the module plan and the bed details. For seating without concealed bed hardware, see couch removal or recliner removal.
