Scrap metal usually turns up in one of four places. In the garage or shed: steel shelving, metal cabinets, workbenches, old bikes and grills. In the yard: chain-link or aluminum fence, a swing set, patio furniture. In a renovation: copper and steel pipe, aluminum gutters and screen frames, ductwork, a cast-iron tub or sink. And in a move or an estate: bed frames, filing cabinets and exercise equipment. Our crew lifts it, carries it out and loads it, and a mixed pile of metal and other junk goes in the same trip.

It’s a removal service: you pay for the lifting and hauling, and we take care of both. If you can haul clean metal yourself and want the money, a scrap buyer is the better fit.

Loose metal and dense connected pieces

Describe scrap metal, cast iron and radiators by current condition and location. Connected radiators need appropriate trade preparation. Do not count anticipated scrap value against the removal price or assume heavy metal can be carried down stairs without review.

Cardboard, pallets and moving debris

For a one-time cleanout, list cardboard, plastic wrapping, foam packing and pallets separately from other contents. State whether pallets are owned, leased or part of a return pool. We confirm permission to haul it and a place that accepts it, then clear it in a one-time haul. Confidential documents go to a shredding provider.

Heavy, long or sharp? Tell us which

Weight is what surprises people. A cast-iron tub, sink or radiator is far heavier than a steel frame the same size, while a hollow aluminum frame weighs little but takes up room. Long pieces such as fence rails, pipe and gutters are bundled to carry; tangled wire and jagged sheet metal are gathered so they can be handled safely. Bolted frames, shelving and swing sets come apart on site: routine disassembly is included, and unusual disassembly is quoted first. Leave an unstable pile as it is rather than pulling it apart to sort it.

Standing fence, a whole shed or a pool cage is a tear-out as well as a haul; see fence removal and light demolition. For heavy single pieces, see cast-iron removal.

What the photo should show

One wide photo of the whole pile, a close-up of the heaviest piece, and one of the way out: the gate, any stairs, soft ground and how far it is to where the truck can park. Point out anything that held fuel, oil or gas, and roughly how much of the pile isn’t metal.

What changes the price

The starting price covers a small household quantity of scrap. Weight and density matter most: a pile of cast iron or heavy steel takes more to move than a pile of aluminum the same size. Then the quantity, the carry (stairs, a gate, soft ground or a long walk), any disassembly, and how much wood, plastic or other debris is mixed in. The metal’s resale value is separate from the removal price.

Text a photo, call, or fill out the free estimate form; you approve the price before we schedule. If there’s more than the photo showed, the change is priced with you in writing before it’s loaded. See how pricing works.

Tanks, drums and anything that held fluids

Propane cylinders, fuel tanks and drums with chemicals or unknown contents go to Lee County’s household chemical drop-off at Topaz Court, which takes propane tanks and household chemicals from residents at no charge (drop-off sites). Don’t puncture or cut a container to empty it. Once those are set aside, we haul the rest of the metal. Point out anything with batteries or a sealed cooling system too; appliances have their own preparation.

Make sure utility-marked equipment, shopping carts or commercial items are yours to get rid of. Sell loose catalytic converters to a scrap buyer directly; we’ll haul the rest.

Where scrap metal goes

Clean metal goes to a scrap outlet when practical; attached wood, plastics, contamination and the receiving outlet affect its route. Usable items can be donated when a local organization accepts them, and the rest goes to appropriate disposal. If you need a documented recycling outcome, tell us before collection so it’s settled first.

Metal mixed into renovation waste is part of construction debris removal; tell us what else is in the pile so the estimate covers all of it.
