Computers, files and cables can turn a desk pickup into an unclear instruction. First separate the furniture from the equipment and information the business or household is keeping. Empty drawers, then identify each part of the desk that leaves.
A straight desk may carry out differently from an L-shaped workstation or a large executive desk with a hutch. Include all components in the initial photos, even if they appear to be one continuous work surface.
Planning your desk removal
Modular work surfaces with equipment you’re keeping and possible attachments.
- Before pickup
- Empty drawers and secure records, keys and devices.
- Identify the return, hutch and pedestal separately.
- Where it is and how to reach it
- Room to separate large work surfaces.
- Elevator/loading route or household stairs.
- Useful photos
- Complete desk and safely visible joins.
- Connections to other furniture and the exit.
- What affects the quote
- Component count, tool time and construction.
- Floors, restricted turns and long carries.
- Connections
- Building-connected power is prepared by the appropriate professional; furniture removal does not include trade disconnection.
Include the return, drawers and hutch.
Show where a side return joins the main desk, whether a pedestal is separate and whether the hutch is attached. Identify any part intended to stay. Removing a shared work surface can affect neighboring furniture, so partial removal must be reviewed.
Ordinary disassembly can be included in the agreed work. Pieces that are staying are left as they are. If the desk is being kept for a move, your movers handle that part.
Unplugged equipment should have its own destination.
Have the person responsible for the equipment disconnect and secure computers, screens and personal cables. Tell us if the desk contains building-connected power or hardwired fittings. Those connections require appropriate professional preparation, not furniture-tool work.
Handle data destruction before pickup, with a data-destruction provider if you need one. If electronics are leaving too, use computer pickup guidance and identify them separately from the desk removal list.
Plan around people still using the space.
In an occupied office, mark the workstations that leave and identify a contact who can resolve an unexpected cable or attachment. Provide the permitted work hours, loading instructions and elevator reservation. Do not assume a request for an evening visit is a confirmed appointment.
An entire closure belongs in the office-cleanout guide. For one desk and nearby seating, the office-furniture guide helps define a combined load without authorizing removal of everything in the room.
