We haul dead plants and portable planters together; tell us roughly how much soil is in them. Large concrete or ceramic pots need a different handling plan from empty plastic pots.
Separate the pot from everything inside it
Show the planter, plant material, soil and any water reservoir. Tell us whether it is freestanding, fixed to a surface or too fragile to lift normally. Soil and heavy filled planters are priced by weight. Fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals go to Lee County’s household chemical drop-off at Topaz Court (drop-off sites). Live plants that are staying should be clearly marked.
A container and its contents are separate decisions
Settle any live plant you want to retain or give away before the pot is removed. A hollow resin planter differs from a concrete vessel filled with soil and standing water. Identify irrigation connections and leave fragile large pots supported. Small-quantity soil hauling covers agreed contents beyond the container itself.
Soil can outweigh the visible planter
Container material, remaining soil and moisture determine the lift. Cracked ceramic or concrete needs support; a narrow patio door or steps can prevent simply rolling the pot away. Rooted plants, attached irrigation and fixed anchors require their own preparation. Do not move a heavy filled planter to make it appear ready.
Where it can go in Lee County
If you’d rather handle some of it yourself, or it’s still worth giving away, these are the local options. Each organization decides what it accepts, so check with them before you load the car.
- In Lee County service areas, yard waste (grass clippings, tree limbs and branches, palm fronds, leaves, dead plants) goes out once a week in a container of 50 pounds or less, or tied in bundles no heavier than 50 pounds and no longer than 6 feet. The county asks you not to bag it: it’s shredded for mulch. Source: Lee County Solid Waste: yard waste
