We haul away old chainsaws, with their loose bars and chains, once the fuel is drained. Show the saw and any loose chains or bars without operating it.
Sharp parts and fuel
Remove fuel before pickup and disclose leaks or remaining fluid concerns. Keep the bar covered if its normal cover is available, and identify loose cutting parts so they are not hidden among ordinary tools. Battery-powered saws require a separate battery-condition review. Do not start the saw to demonstrate whether it works.
Keep cutting parts contained without opening the saw
The normal bar cover helps contain the chain, while spare chains and loose bars should stay identifiable in their case or other secure grouping. Leave the engine off and do not discharge a battery by running the chain. Other garden tools can be collected without mixing in fuel or chain-oil bottles.
Saw type and loose cutting attachments affect handling
A small corded saw differs from a heavy fuel-powered unit or battery kit. Fuel preparation, leaks and removable lithium packs need their own arrangements. Bar length and sharp spare parts affect loading even when the motor has failed. No running demonstration or engine disassembly is needed for removal.

- Lee County lists small-engine equipment such as lawn mowers, pressure washers and weed eaters among the items that can go out with regular household garbage. Source: Lee County Solid Waste: household chemical waste
- Habitat’s ReStore accepts lawn mowers, grills, fountains and gently used tools, but not propane tanks, fuel or gas cans. Goodwill Southwest Florida doesn’t take lawn mowers. Sources: Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties: accepted donations; Goodwill Southwest Florida: donation guide
