We remove string trimmers and weed trimmers with their fuel or battery preparation confirmed. Show the full shaft and cutting head so length and exposed damage are clear.
Shafts and interchangeable heads
Gas models need fuel removed before pickup. Identify battery packs separately and keep cutting attachments visible in the inventory. Include spare heads or extensions only if they are also unwanted. Do not cut a shaft or open a battery to shorten the tool for hauling.
Distinguish the power head from cutting attachments
A split-shaft tool may share one engine or motor among a trimmer, edger and hedge-cutting head. Lay out the unwanted attachments as separate identifiable pieces while keeping blade guards fitted. A bent shaft does not need to be straightened for pickup. Group loose line spools and ordinary accessories without concealing exposed cutting edges in a bag.
Long shafts and multiple attachments affect collection
One straight-shaft trimmer takes little volume but needs space to carry without striking walls or retained equipment. Several power heads, extensions and blade attachments require more sorting and secure loading. A combined pickup with a leaf blower should identify both machines and their batteries or fuel preparation, rather than describe an unspecified pile of garden tools.

- Lee County lists small-engine equipment such as lawn mowers, pressure washers and weed eaters among the items that can go out with regular household garbage. Source: Lee County Solid Waste: household chemical waste
- Habitat’s ReStore accepts lawn mowers, grills, fountains and gently used tools, but not propane tanks, fuel or gas cans. Goodwill Southwest Florida doesn’t take lawn mowers. Sources: Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties: accepted donations; Goodwill Southwest Florida: donation guide
