Estate Cleanouts on Sanibel

Sanibel has one of the oldest populations in Lee County: about 59% of residents are 65 or older, and nearly half the homes are seasonal. We plan the cleanout around a single trip onto the island where we can, and we price it from your photos and written list of what stays. Text the photos, call, or use the free estimate form to start.

Heirs who aren’t on the island

Nearly half of Sanibel’s homes are held for seasonal use, so the person settling an estate is often hundreds of miles away and the home is closed up. Nobody needs to cross the causeway to watch us load: a property manager, realtor, lockbox or local family member can let the crew in. Send photos or a video of every room, mark what the family is keeping and name one person who approves the work. That person gets updates as we go and before-and-after photos when it’s done. Text the photos or call to get started.

Island homes and condos

About a third of Sanibel’s homes are in buildings of 10 or more units and about 38% were built before 1980. For a condo, send the association’s rules on vendor hours and elevator use. For a house, tell us about any stairs up to the entry and where a truck can park without blocking the road. If you authorize it, we work out the building’s elevator and loading rules with the manager before the trip. Text photos and the building rules, or call.

What WM will take

Under the City’s contract, WM takes sofas, chairs and mattresses with regular garbage and schedules large appliances as bulk pickups. That’s useful if someone on the island can carry items to the curb on collection day. When no one can, we carry everything out and take it off the island. Call or text to plan that one trip.

How we handle an estate

  • Your family doesn’t have to be here. A lockbox, realtor, property manager or local family member can handle access, and photos, video, calls and texts cover the decisions.
  • One decision-maker approves the work. Start by marking the definite keeps with colored tape, sticky notes or one keep room the crew leaves alone.
  • Start with the rooms that are ready. Rooms the family hasn’t decided on stay out of the job, and we come back for them as a separate visit when you’re ready.
  • Cash, jewelry, photos, papers and keys are set aside for the family. Medications are kept separate, and if we find a gun or ammunition, we stop and call whoever is in charge of the estate.
  • Usable things go to local donation outlets that accept them, metal and appliances are recycled, and the cleared areas are left broom-clean.
  • You get the price before anything is loaded, progress updates as we work, before-and-after photos when they’re needed and a clear invoice.
