Hoarding Cleanouts on Sanibel
On Sanibel, an accumulation that threatens a fire or health hazard can draw a City notice that orders it cleared within ten days, with an appeal to the city manager in the same ten days. That’s a short window, so call early. We clear contents without judgment and can plan the work around a single trip onto the island. Text photos, call, or use the free estimate form.
A ten-day notice
Sanibel’s code ties these notices to fire hazards and health risks, and the notice itself gives ten days to abate. The same ten days apply to an appeal to the city manager. Code Enforcement is at (239) 472-4555. If ten days isn’t enough for the amount of work, send us photos right away so you know what’s realistic before you talk to the City. We can provide photos showing the completed work. Call or text as soon as the notice arrives.
Send photos for a free estimate. Show each room or area that’s going, what stays, and the path to the door.
Older homes, older residents
About 59% of Sanibel residents are 65 or older and about 38% of homes were built before 1980. When the person living there is elderly, let them decide what stays, name one person who approves the work, and tell us about stairs up to the entry. We work at the person’s pace, over several visits if needed. Call or text to start.

How we approach a hoarding cleanout
- No embarrassment, no lectures and no jokes. What happens in the home stays private, and photos are only for the estimate or to document the work.
- We work at the person’s pace, over several visits if that’s what keeps progress going.
- First a safe path in and out, then simple zones everyone understands: trash, definite keeps, and not sure yet. Then we keep working the volume down.
- Photos often tell us enough. A severely packed home, where floors, stairs or exits can’t be seen, may need a look in person before a firm scope.
- Tell us about pests, animals, mold, needles or damaged floors. We remove the contents and clean up after ourselves; sanitizing, mold remediation and biohazard work are done by qualified specialists, and we coordinate the order of work with them.
- If there’s a code notice, you (or your family) stay in charge of the case with the city or county. We do the clearing, can work in the order the notice requires, and can provide photos of the completed work.
- For a rental, the landlord or property manager establishes what we’re authorized to remove before we start.
