We remove servers, racks and other IT equipment once your IT team has shut it down, handled the data and disconnected it. The hauling job starts with equipment ready to leave, while live systems and retained devices stay under your team’s control.

Separate live systems from equipment released for removal

Identify every rack or device that is leaving, including rails, cable bundles and attached accessories. Mark what stays, and settle leased or provider-owned hardware with its owner first.

  • Have your IT team shut down and disconnect the released equipment without disturbing live services.
  • Identify rack anchoring and attachments so agreed release or dismantling can be planned.
  • Keep required cables and parts for retained systems outside the hauling group.

Resolve stored data and backup power before handover

Servers and their power systems contain more than scrap metal. Deal with those separate responsibilities while the equipment is still in your control.

Drives and other data-bearing media

Settle retention, erasure or destruction with your IT provider. Data destruction and its certification stay with your IT provider. Customers retain data responsibility; medical, legal and financial businesses must remove drives or certify their destruction before release. Keep drives awaiting a separate secure service out of the hauling load; see hard-drive disposal.

UPS batteries

Identify UPS units and their battery type separately. Intact, nonleaking lead-acid batteries need separate handling and an appropriate receiving outlet. Loose lithium packs or damaged batteries are not ordinary rack contents; disclose them rather than hiding them in a cabinet or mixed box.

Do not assume a loaded rack can roll out intact

Casters do not resolve a heavy cabinet’s stability, thresholds, stairs or doorway clearance. Identify the rack’s loaded weight, which units can be removed and how the cabinet gets to loading. Emptying a rack changes both its weight and the number of separate equipment carries.

Keep the work area and exit free of active cables and stored contents. Server migration, live network changes and hardwired electrical disconnection remain with the appropriate IT or trade providers.

Rack weight, dismantling and building access drive the estimate

The number and weight of servers, cabinet size, anchor release, agreed dismantling and UPS handling affect the work. Loading-dock distance, elevator access and facility pickup windows can change how the crew moves that equipment. If desks and filing cabinets are leaving too, include them in the office cleanout plan rather than treating them as part of the IT rack.
