A desktop printer and a floor-standing office copier need different handling. First confirm whether the machine is owned, leased or due back to a supplier. A broken device is not automatically free to dispose of.

Send the model, overall dimensions if available and photographs of the machine, attachments and exit route. Confirm acceptance before taking it out of service solely for our pickup.

Check the lease and stored information before pickup.

Ask the responsible owner or equipment provider about return obligations. Keep that decision separate from an employee’s request to clear floor space. Identify the person who can authorize disposal and any accessories that belong with a supplier return.

Some multifunction devices can retain information; the FTC’s copier data-security guide explains why disposal planning should account for stored data. Have your IT provider or the manufacturer’s instructions guide any data preparation appropriate to the model. Our pickup does not include secure erasure, drive destruction or a certificate of data destruction. Do not assume switching the machine off removes stored data.

A machine on wheels may still be a difficult load.

Show paper cabinets, finishers, extra trays and any separate units. Tell us which components remain attached and whether casters are damaged. Do not push a heavy machine onto stairs or dismantle it to reduce the apparent pickup size.

Remove paper you’re keeping and personal material from ordinary accessible trays. Disclose loose toner, leaks or broken parts before scheduling. Do not empty cartridges or open internal assemblies for removal preparation; component acceptance needs review with the equipment.

Photograph the route beyond the office door.

Include thresholds, ramps, elevator doors and the loading area. Provide the machine’s documented weight if readily available; do not estimate a floor-standing unit’s handling from its wheel size. Unusually heavy equipment needs a specific acceptance decision.

For a larger office cleanout, list the machine separately from office furniture. For laptops, towers and monitors in the same load, the computer pickup guide explains listing devices and protecting their data. Receiving requirements determine what can be accepted; no recycling percentage or destination is promised.

  • Lee County’s electronics recycling doesn’t take keyboards, mice, remotes, cables, modems and routers; the county says those go with regular household garbage. Source: Lee County Solid Waste: Topaz Court facility
