We haul away bulky household plastic: storage bins and totes, broken lawn chairs and tables, outgrown toys and playhouses, laundry baskets and the rest of the plastic clutter. Empty the bins and tell us what kinds of items are in the pile.

Empty bins and containers

Empty the totes so you can check for anything you want to keep, and so the load is what it looks like. Containers that held chemicals, pesticides or unknown liquids don’t go in a junk load; Lee County takes household chemicals from residents at its Topaz Court drop-off.

Rigid household objects

Empty storage totes and identify lids, loose pieces and anything you want kept. Broken edges need to be visible to the crew rather than buried under other contents. Unwanted toys may also contain electronics or batteries, so distinguish those from plain plastic pieces.

Film, foam and packing material

Keep lightweight wrapping and foam contained so they do not scatter. Packing material removal can be planned with boxes and other contents from an unpacking job; rigid bins and loose film are not interchangeable recycling materials.

Chemical, fuel or pesticide containers

Do not empty unknown liquids onto the ground or mix containers with residue into ordinary plastic clutter. Disclose what they held so the appropriate hazardous-material route can be identified. Agricultural chemical containers are different from household storage bins.

Recycling symbols

The number molded into a piece of plastic names the resin; it doesn’t mean the curbside cart takes it. Lee County excludes toys, plastic film and foam from curbside recycling; check its accepted and excluded materials list before putting a bulky item in the cart. Usable bins and plastic furniture are worth offering to someone before they go.

What changes the price

Plastic is usually light but bulky: a pile of empty totes or a toddler slide takes truck space without much weight. Bins still full of other things are heavier. Stairs and the carry to the truck add time. See how pricing works.

Where it can go in Lee County

If you’d rather handle some of it yourself, or it’s still worth giving away, these are the local options. Each organization decides what it accepts, so check with them before you load the car.
