We take down and haul away chicken coops, attached runs and nesting boxes. Move the birds, and clear out the bedding and droppings, before the visit. Then send photos of the coop, the run, how it’s anchored and the way across the yard.
Before we come
Take out the birds, feed, bedding and droppings before we come. If a light, heater or fan is wired in, have it disconnected. Tell us about rot, rodents or wasps so we come prepared. If the coop is leaning or rotten, leave it standing as it is rather than pulling it apart.
Coop, run and roof
A coop, its attached run, the roof panels and the mesh come apart as separate pieces. Show us all of them, and which posts are set in concrete. A dog kennel is a similar job. Habitat’s ReStore doesn’t take used or cut lumber, so old coop wood usually goes in the load.
What changes the price
A small portable coop is a quick job; a large anchored coop with a long run, rotten boards and sharp mesh takes longer. The carry across the yard matters too. Digging out footings and restoring the yard are separate. See how pricing works.
Where it can go in Lee County
If you’d rather handle some of it yourself, or it’s still worth giving away, these are the local options. Each organization decides what it accepts, so check with them before you load the car.
- Habitat’s ReStore accepts full-sheet drywall, lumber 6 feet or longer, plywood, trim, bricks, blocks and pavers. It doesn’t take cut or used wood, paint or materials left outdoors. Goodwill doesn’t take building materials. Sources: Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties: accepted donations; Goodwill Southwest Florida: donation guide
