Cardboard and recyclables at the curb in Lee County
Lee County’s curbside recycling is single-stream: every recyclable goes in one cart. The county takes any kind of box unless it held a liquid, and asks you to flatten it to save room in the cart. Pizza box lids can go in; the bottoms only if there’s no food residue. Plastic bags and foam stay out of the cart. In unincorporated Lee County, recycling is picked up once a week with no limit on the amount, out by 5:30 a.m. (Lee County: What to Recycle; Lee County curbside service; checked October 14, 2026.)
Inside Fort Myers city limits, corrugated moving boxes, cereal, gift and shoe boxes are all on the City’s recycling list (City of Fort Myers: Recycling). In Cape Coral, recyclables go in the green recycling cart (Cape Coral solid waste FAQs). Businesses and multifamily properties in unincorporated Lee County and Bonita Springs fall under the county’s business recycling ordinance instead.
When a move or a delivery leaves more boxes than the cart can take each week, or the cardboard is mixed with foam, film and packing debris, our crew loads it all in one visit. Clean, dry cardboard is separated for recycling when practical. Text a photo of the pile, call, or use the free estimate form.
Flattening and mixed packaging
Flattened cardboard takes less loading space and labor than full boxes. Keep plastic wrapping, foam, straps and household trash identifiable instead of hiding them inside a cardboard stack. Clean dry cardboard is separated for recycling when practical, without a guaranteed destination or outcome.
Check the carton before flattening it
Hardware, manuals and small components can hide in folds or taped pockets. Once those are removed, separate plastic film, foam and straps from the cardboard. Flatten clean empty cartons where practical. A pile of mixed packing material needs its actual contents identified rather than being described as cardboard alone.
Flattened stacks and filled boxes are different loads
Empty intact cartons use much more truck space than flattened cardboard. Stair carrying, several rooms of packaging and separation of mixed inserts affect labor. Wet or contaminated cartons need to remain distinguishable from clean dry material. For a manageable quantity, check your address’s recycling collection before arranging a separate pickup.
