An unwanted canoe can be removed from a yard, garage or other accessible land location. Its length, material and storage position help determine how it can reach the truck.
Long hulls and narrow gates
Empty the canoe and disclose damage or water inside. Show its full length and the tightest gate or turn on the way out. Do not lift it off a high rack or move it through a difficult route just for photos. If the canoe is in the water, bring it ashore before pickup.
Hull length needs a route with room to turn
A long canoe may clear a gate but still be unable to turn between the shed and fence. Rack height also changes how it can be lowered safely. Leave the hull in its existing support rather than taking it down alone. A shorter kayak can have different hatches, accessories and water-retention concerns.
Material and storage height determine the lift
Aluminum, plastic, fiberglass and wood hulls differ in weight and damaged-edge handling. A high rack, narrow gate or steps adds labor beyond a ground-level open-yard pickup. Water and stored contents must be addressed. The job begins on land; water retrieval and marine salvage are separate.
