You can clear a shed without taking down the building. Identify the tools, boxes and stored contents you want gone, and mark everything that stays before the crew arrives.

Look through stored contents before booking
Disclose old paint, fuel, chemicals, pesticides and unknown containers separately; they go to Lee County’s household chemical drop-off at Topaz Court (drop-off sites). Engine equipment needs its fuel preparation reviewed. Show the doorway, floor condition and path through the yard without entering an unstable building. Keepers can remain when clearly separated and accessible. Shed dismantling is a separate structure-removal request.
What affects shed cleanout cost?
A shed cleanout is priced on what is inside: boxes and garden tools by volume, mowers and heavy equipment individually. A long carry across the yard, or a shed packed so tight there is no room to work, adds time. If the shed is coming down too, include it and we’ll price both together. See how pricing works.
What’s usually in the back of the shed
Most sheds hold the same mix: old paint cans, half-used bags of fertilizer, pool chemicals, gas cans, a mower or trimmer that stopped running, broken lawn furniture, holiday decorations and lumber offcuts. The tools and furniture go in the truck. Paint, pool chemicals, pesticides and propane tanks don’t, but Lee County’s Topaz Court facility takes them from residents at no charge, and the county says empty paint cans can go out with the household garbage.
Open the door and photograph from the doorway rather than climbing over things. Sheds in Southwest Florida can hide wasp nests and the occasional snake, so tell us if you’ve seen either and don’t dig through the stacks yourself.
Where it can go in Lee County
If you’d rather handle some of it yourself, or it’s still worth giving away, these are the local options. Each organization decides what it accepts, so check with them before you load the car.
- Lee County lists small-engine equipment such as lawn mowers, pressure washers and weed eaters among the items that can go out with regular household garbage. Source: Lee County Solid Waste: household chemical waste
- Habitat’s ReStore accepts lawn mowers, grills, fountains and gently used tools, but not propane tanks, fuel or gas cans. Goodwill Southwest Florida doesn’t take lawn mowers. Sources: Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties: accepted donations; Goodwill Southwest Florida: donation guide
- Paint, pool chemicals, pesticides and propane tanks don’t go in a junk load; Lee County takes them from residents free at Topaz Court. Household chemical drop-off Source: Lee County Solid Waste: Topaz Court facility
