We remove ordinary mounts and antlers once we know who owns them and what species they are. Pieces from protected or uncertain species wait until their status is clear.

Identify the specimen without disturbing it

Send safe photos, known species information and any records you already have. Settle wildlife legality and any sale or donation of questionable material with the appropriate wildlife authority first; a photo can’t answer that. Old mounts may need additional protective equipment and handling review; do not open, dismantle or shake them for a photo.

Specimen history comes before a transfer or disposal decision

Keep existing records and known species information together while uncertain specimens receive authoritative review. Do not offer questionable wildlife material for sale or donation to avoid that step. Leave old backing and loose dust undisturbed. An empty display cabinet can go too; list it separately from the mounts inside it.

Antlers, bases and deteriorating material change handling

A wall mount can project far beyond its plaque; a large diorama may include heavy glass and a base. Size, condition and stairs affect the carry. Wall attachments need support before release. Old or deteriorating material may need additional precautions beyond ordinary decor removal.
