We remove unwanted tents and ordinary camping gear as household contents. List tent poles, sleeping equipment, coolers and storage cases separately from fuel or cooking supplies.
Keep fuel and restricted contents out
Propane cylinders, compressed gas and liquid fuel are not ordinary junk pickup. Empty coolers and disclose batteries or unusual contamination before collection. A tent can be assessed packed or assembled; do not assume a closed storage tote contains only accepted gear. Identify sharp broken poles and stakes.
Sort the kit before closing its storage tubs
Tent poles and stakes belong with the shelter, while fuel cartridges, lantern fuel and power stations need separate arrangements. Check coolers, sleeping-bag pockets and storage bags for keeps. Complete dry gear is easier to offer for reuse than mixed damp parts. A wider garage cleanout can include the remaining stored household contents.
Tents, rigid coolers and assembled frames take different space
Folded fabric compresses; coolers and large frame tents do not necessarily do so. Wet material adds weight and can change containment. Broken poles, loose stakes and several storage areas add handling. Identify fuel or batteries before packing, since those concerns cannot be resolved by labelling a closed tote as camping gear.
