Wood Paneling Removal
We pull wood paneling off the walls and haul it, with the trim and furring strips. How it was attached decides what the wall looks like afterward.
We pull wood paneling off the walls and haul it away, with the trim, baseboard and furring strips behind it. If it’s already off and stacked, we just haul it.
Paneling can be nailed to studs, glued to drywall or fastened over furring strips, and that decides what the wall looks like afterward. Tell us what you know about how it went up, whether it’s been painted, and the year the home was built.
How it’s attached changes the job
Paneling nailed over drywall or furring strips usually comes off in whole sheets and leaves the wall behind it in decent shape. Paneling glued straight to drywall tears away part of the drywall face, so the wall will need a skim coat or new drywall. Paneling nailed straight to studs leaves open studs: you’re looking at new drywall either way. Take the cover off one outlet and photograph the edge of the panel; that usually shows us which it is.
Clear what’s mounted on it
Shelves, TV mounts and pictures come down first; tell us which you’re keeping. Outlet and switch covers come off so the panels slide past. If the boxes need to move to the new wall surface, that’s a licensed electrician’s job.
What’s left when it’s gone
Expect nail holes, glue lines or bare studs, plus gaps at the ceiling and floor where the trim was. Patching, drywall and paint are finish work for your contractor. Tell us if they’re coming the same week so the room is clear for them.
What happens to the materials
Old paneling is thin, often painted, and usually glued or nailed, so it rarely has a reuse market. Habitat’s ReStore doesn’t take cut or used wood. Paneling, trim and furring strips go out as construction debris through an appropriate legal disposal stream.
What changes the price
How many walls and how high, how the paneling is attached, whether the trim and furring strips go too, and the way out to the truck. A single den wall is a small job; a whole room glued over drywall is more labor. See how pricing works.
Dumpster or junk removal?
If you’re doing the tear-out yourself over several days, a roll-off dumpster you load as you go can make more sense. If the debris is already piled up, our crew loads it and hauls it away in one visit. Dumpster rental vs. junk removal compares cost and effort side by side.
